We are always in the market to buy books. Single volumes like you see here, entire libraries, or just a few choice books. Please see our page on what we buy before contacting us to sell your book

We purchase only hard back books in most categories and we desire our books to be in excellent condition since that is what most of our customers expect. Unfortunately, we cannot buy textbooks, book club editions, paperbacks, or books that have been extensively underlined, highlighted, or annotated . Our commitment is to provide the best price possible for good books offered to us and generally, we do not provide quotes. You should research your book first and determine a price you would like to receive. If we decide to buy, we may accept that price or give you a counter offer for your book.

John Heyl Vincent founded the periodical the Sunday School Teacher and from 1868 to 1888 was editor of Methodist Sunday school publications and corresponding secretary of the Sunday School Union. With Lewis Miller he organized at Chautauqua, N.Y., a Sunday school teachers' institute, which included secular as well as religious instruction, out of which grew the Chautauqua movement. In 1888 Vincent was made bishop. From 1900 until his retirement in 1904 he was head of the work of his denomination in Europe, making his residence in Zürich.

During Vincent's life the Sunday School movement grew and expanded. The movement was characterized by a broadened concept of its role and purpose, a more sophisticated and organized format, a set of curriculum to produce the desired outcomes, a marked rise in teaching standards and a marriage with advances in public education. At the center of this movement was John Heyl Vincent, whose labors for the Sunday School helped to make the era a dynamic period in its history.

Vincent lead the Sundary School Movement of the mainline Protestant denominations from the Civil War to the creation of the Religious Education Association in 1903. This work details his leadership and attempts to aid the present understanding of the culture and religious life of the late nineteenth century, while pointing toward some of the issues present today in the field of Christian Religious Education.
