Troll image by J.P. Hammond 1885Exploration and Travel

"Go West Young Man" , a simple sentance attributed to Horace Greely, created a move in the United States that was unparelleled and filled a country. Travel by horse, coach or even train was expensive and time consuming so adults and children alike became enthonged in the tales of travel told in these books, trying to see a world beyond thier limited confines.

These books included graphic descriptions of places we can now only imagine, written by famous explorers and simple travelers and created historic insights into cities, countries and peoples of the world.; Lost countries and buried cities were often referenced in the books. Mythological creatures thought to be real were told of others. They often included detailed maps, woodcut and steel engravings and hand colored illustrations all with tales of glory as pioneers, exporers and travelers crossed the world by land and sea meeting up with pirates, brigands and the hardships of travel. You might find an atlas or two here or simply a reference to some lost treasure.  You will denfiately find stories of the Victorian Era and before that will fill you with wonder and amazement.
