"The true aim of politeness, is to make those with whom you associate as well satisfied with themselves as possible. ...it does whatever it can to accommodate their feelings and wishes in social intercourse." Civil War Etiquette: Martine's Handbook and Vulgarisms in Conversation circa 1866 Victorian etiquette books covered a wide range of topics. There were separate books written for ladies and gentlemen, books for boys and youth, young ladies, children and manuals for the general public which covered anything from ballroom to dining to parlour etiquette. These inspirational guides, written by many famous authors of the era, meant the Victorians could learn exactly what to do in almost any social situation. They were used at home, in schools and even church. They often included self help instructions for both home and work with illustrative chapters on men and women of wealth and character.

We purchase hardback books in most categories and desire our books to be in excellent condition since that is what most of our customers expect. Unfortunately, we cannot buy textbooks, book club editions, paperbacks, or books that have been extensively underlined, highlighted, or annotated . Our commitment is to provide the best price possible for good books offered to us and generally we do not provide quotes.
