Australasia A Descriptive and Pictorial Account of the Australian and New Zealand Colonies, Tasmania, and the Adjacent Lands

One chapter on aboriginal life. and a chapter on each of the colonies.  From there it moves on to discuss New Zealand, Fiji, New Caledonia, Papus or New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, New Britain and New Ireland and then last to The Papuan Islands.

More of a text book, than a history book, this looks at Australia's minerals, plants, and animals. But from our aspect now it is a history book, providing opinion and potential for growth in the late 1800's with discussions on roads and railroads, population, manufacturing and mining.

William Wilkins (educator) (1827–1892), Australian teacher and co-founder of Fort Street High School, Sydney Australia

In Fort Street National School in Sydney, William Wilkins was teaching pupil-teachers how to lead the children of New South Wales out of darkness into the light. He was holding out to them that bright prospect of the day when every locality however remote and every family however humble was supplied with the ameliorating influences of an education, which would teach every man, woman and child in the colony to form the habits of regularity, cleanliness, orderly behaviour, and regard for the rights of both public and private property, as well as the habit of obedience to the law, and respect for duly constituted authority.
